How GPS tracking works on desert roads and in old-city lanes
A tracker listens to satellites to work out where it is, then sends that position through a mobile network to your phone. Open desert is easy for the satellites, because the sky is wide and nothing blocks the signal. The weak point is the mobile network, which can thin out on long empty stretches between towns.
When coverage drops, the tracker does not stop. It keeps recording the route and uploads everything once the vehicle is back in range, so your trip history has no hole in it.
